Thank You Veterans for Your Service!

draper-with-3-flagsCitizens for Milford extends our sincerest appreciation to America’s brave men and women in uniform–those who have served, as well as those who continue to serve. Thank you!

To honor all our veterans and active service members, Citizens for Milford partnered with the Milford Corps of the Salvation Army to launch the Draper Memorial Park Field of Flags. The Dedication Ceremony was held Friday, November 11. This profoundly moving event would not have possible without the enthusiastic assistance, support, and participation of the following individuals and organizations:

  • Major David Irwin of the Milford Corps of the Salvation Army
  • Mr. John Pilla, Veterans Agent, and the Veterans Services Office
  • Mr. Mike Bresciani and the Milford Parks Commission and Staff
  • Milford High School Band
  • Nadine Pomeroy, Director of Music and MHS Marching Band Director
  • Jill Boday, MHS Assistant Band Director
  • Soloist Sophia McClay
  • Board of Selectman Chairman Bill Buckley
  • Milford Police Department
  • Milford 495 Rental Center for donation of chairs

If you have not had an opportunity to visit the Field of Flags, please do so before this Wednesday. The flags will fly again in Draper Park for Memorial Day. If you would like to sponsor a flag for the next four holidays (Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day), please print the sponsorship form and mail it with your check anytime. If you need to be mailed a copy of the form, please email us at CitizensforMilford@gmail.com.

We thank everyone who has chosen to sponsor a flag. Each of these flags will also be placed in Draper Park on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day next year.

We invite all area residents to help us launch this new community tradition by attending the Field of Flags Dedication Ceremony, to be held in Draper Park at the conclusion of the Veterans Day Parade this Friday, November 11.

Please make a note of the following information:

  • The flags will be placed in Draper Park on Monday, November 7. We will attach the yellow remembrance ribbons and honoree cards to the flags on Tuesday afternoon. Everyone is welcome to stop by the park and walk around the flags anytime. The flags will remain in Draper Park until early the following week.
  • The parade will take place on Friday, November 11, starting at 10:00 a.m. at Stop and Shop and continuing down Main Street down to Draper Park.
  • The dedication ceremony will take place in Draper Park at the end of the parade. We anticipate the ceremony will start at approximately 11:00 a.m. You may choose to walk alongside the parade as it marches downtown or go directly to Draper Park to await the arrival of the parade.
  • The ceremony will include music, a blessing by Major David Irwin of the Salvation Army, and comments by Board of Selectmen Chairman Bill Buckley. In addition, we plan to invite flag sponsors in attendance to say a few words about the person they have honored with a flag. This is not mandatory, but if you are a flag sponsor and would like to say a few words about your honoree, we would welcome hearing from you!
  • If the parade is cancelled on Friday due to rain, we will hold the Field of Flags Dedication Ceremony on Saturday, November 12 at 10:00 a.m. in Draper Memorial Park.

We look forward to a beautiful display of red, white, and blue in Draper Park this week and hope for a large community gathering at the Field of Flags Dedication Ceremony!

Citizens for Milford extends sincerest appreciation to our partner, the Milford Corps of the Salvation Army, as well as to Mr. John Pilla of Milford Veterans Services and Mr. Mike Bresciani of the Milford Parks Commission for their enthusiastic support and assistance.

Got Questions About 40B? We’ve Got Answers!

Perspective Views of the Proposed Robsham Village Apartment Complex

Perspective Views of the Proposed Robsham Village Apartment Complex

At our September 21, 2016 quarterly public meeting, Citizens for Milford invited residents to attend and participate in a discussion aimed at understanding the Chapter 40B law; how state officials, a host community, and a developer work together throughout the process; and the potential positive and negative impacts a 40B development might have on our community.

Citizens for Milford invited the residents attending the meeting to share their concerns and questions, which we then forwarded to Town Counsel Gerald Moody for a response. We extend our sincerest appreciation to Attorney Moody for his thorough and insightful explanations, which he provided in a timely manner. His answers to Milford residents’ questions are provided on the Chapter 40B Housing page on our website here.

Video Available of Citizens for Milford’s Recent Public Meeting

A discussion of the proposed Chapter 40B apartment complex Robsham Village and its potential positive and negative impacts on our community was the primary agenda item at our September 21, 2016 public meeting held at St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Steve Trettel presented an overview of information provided by Town Counsel Gerald Moody.

The residents who attended had many questions, which Citizens for Milford typed and forwarded to Attorney Moody for a response. Those answers will be provided on this website the first week of October.

Thank you Milford TV for another excellent job!

Early Voting Now Available in Massachusetts

Vote ButtonThe following information was provided by the Milford Town Clerk’s Office on September 26, 2016:

We are excited to announce that all registered voters will be able to vote before Election Day for the first time ever in Massachusetts. Early voting will begin on October 24th and continue through November 4th, 2016. Prior to the enactment of this new law, the only way a registered voter was allowed to vote prior to Election Day was through absentee voting. Although absentee voting will still be available for registered voters who qualify, only those who will be absent from their city or town on Election Day, or have a disability that prevents them from going to the polls, or have a religious belief preventing the same, are legally allowed to vote by absentee ballot.

Unlike absentee voting, early voting is for every registered voter. Registered voters do not need an excuse or reason to vote early. Regardless of whether a voter wants to take advantage of early voting, vote absentee or vote on Election Day, the first step is making sure you are registered. To check to see if you are registered to vote, and to find information on how to register to vote, you may visit the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website: sec.state.ma.us/ele. If you need to register to vote, you may do it online by visiting: RegisterToVoteMA.com. All you need is a license or an I.D. issued by the Registry of Motor Vehicles to apply online. To be eligible to vote in the November 8th State Election, you must register to vote or make any necessary changes to your voter registration by October 19th, 2016.

Early voting can be done in person or by mail. In Milford, early voting can be done in person at Town Hall during the following dates and times:
Monday through Friday October 24th through October 28th from 8:30 am until 5pm and also October 31st through November 4th from 8:30 am until 5pm.

For public convenience, Milford has also decided to offer weekend hours on Saturday, October 29th from 9am until 1pm ONLY.

Also, registered voters have the option to request an early voting ballot through the mail. Simply fill out an application and mail it to Town of Milford Clerk’s Office, 52 Main Street, Room 12, Milford, MA 01757. You can find the application on the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website: sec.state.ma.us/ele.

Please note, however, once a voter has cast an early voting ballot, the voter may no longer vote at the polls on Election Day.

For the first time in Massachusetts, the first choice all voters will make is which day to vote. Early voting will make the most fundamental right of our citizens more convenient than ever to exercise. We encourage all of our citizens to exercise that right and take advantage of the opportunity to vote on their schedules.
