Thanks to the enthusiasm and cooperation of multiple town officials, Citizens for Milford has arranged for the planting of a Christmas Tree as a gift to the community in Draper Memorial Park. Standing at almost nine feet tall, the Fraser fir will grow about one foot each year. We hope the Christmas tree will serve as a symbol of peace and a gesture of good will to all Milford residents and visitors for generations to come.

We would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to following folks who helped us gain the appropriate approvals, purchase the tree, and coordinate the planting:

  • Milford Parks Commissioners, including Mike Bresciani, Parks Director.
  • Scott Crisafulli, Highway Surveyor.
  • Chuck Reneau, Tree Warden.
  • O’Donnell Electric Company, which donated electrical services for lighting.
  • Peter Mezitt, owner of Weston Nurseries, who extended a substantial discount on the purchase.
  • Nancy Purdue, the Weston Nurseries saleswoman who offered expert advice.
A tree lighting ceremony is tentatively scheduled for Friday, December 4th at 7:00 p.m. Please check our Facebook page for updates!

Milford Christmas Tree to be Planted in Draper Memorial Park this Wednesday, November 25

FraserFir1Citizens for Milford is pleased to announce that it has purchased a Fraser fir tree to be planted in Draper Memorial Park this Wednesday morning, November 25, under the direction of Tree Warden Chuck Reneau. The nearly nine-feet tall evergreen will be planted in the section of the park that abuts the corner of Main Street and Park Street. Holiday lights will be installed on the tree by the Highway Department. Citizens for Milford is also donating two large holiday wreaths to be placed on the base of the General William F. Draper statue.

Inspired by the public Christmas tree that stands in Boston Common each December and the National Christmas Tree that has graced the Ellipse outside the White House since the Calvin Coolidge administration, Citizens for Milford hopes that its donation and planting of the Milford Christmas Tree will serve as a symbol of peace and a gesture of good will to all Milford residents and visitors for generations to come.

Citizens for Milford would like to thank the Milford Parks Commissioners, as well as the many town officials who worked with us to gain the appropriate approvals, coordinate the planting, and arrange for electrical services, including: Mike Bresciani, Parks Director; Scott Crisafulli, Highway Surveyor; and Chuck Reneau, Tree Warden. We also extend our appreciation to O’Donnell Electric Company, which donated electrical services; Peter Mezitt, owner of Weston Nurseries, who extended a substantial discount on the purchase; and Nancy Purdue, the Weston Nurseries saleswoman who offered expert advice.

Milford Thanks Its First Responders

September 27th was declared by Governor Baker to be First Responders Day. Schools and businesses all around Milford recognized our police officers, firemen, and emergency medical personnel today in recognition for the job they do each and every day with public messages! Citizens for Milford extends its own sincerest gratitude to our local heroes!

Join Us in Thanking FIRST RESPONDERS on 9/27

First Responders Flyer GraphicThe governor has proclaimed Sunday, September 27th to be First Responders Day. Citizens for Milford joins Governor Baker in extending our sincerest gratitude to all the active and retired men and women of our local police force, fire department, and emergency medical service units.

We are putting those words into action by working to promote this important date. We have discussed this with the Board of Selectmen, and we have also asked the school department, library, and local business owners to post “Thank You” notices on their community message boards on 9/27. The response has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic.

Most importantly, we invite YOU to join us in thanking the dedicated men and women of our local police force, fire department, and emergency medical service units who honor our community with their commitment and service. Your “thank you” can come anytime so don’t worry if you miss out on September 27th.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Take a moment and say “thank you” to a first responder in our community.
  • Ask the young people in your life to draw pictures, write a poem, or make thank you cards.
  • Bake a special treat and drop it off at the police station, fire station, or ER.
  • Recall a moment when a first responder has helped you or a loved one and write about it in a thank you letter.

Do you have other suggestions? Please send them to us by email at CitizensforMilford@gmail.com or through our Facebook page.

Have You Heard the Plans for the Concrete Plant?

Cement TruckA concrete batch plant is in the works for the property at 400 East Main Street (Route 16) in Milford. This property is located diagonally across from Hickey’s Liquor Store, just east of the I-495 overpass.

The Planning Board discussion that was originally scheduled for August 11 on this issue has been POSTPONED to September 1.

GET INFORMED! To learn more about what happens at a concrete batch plant, what its impacts are on a community, and what the plans are for mitigating those impacts, go to our Concrete Batch Plant page.  On this page we have summarized the plans for the plant and provided links to documents from the developer, as well as links to pertinent news articles.

If you are concerned about the impacts such a facility will have on Milford and what steps the developer is taking to mitigate them, then we urge you to attend Tuesday night’s Planning Board meeting. Although the property is zoned correctly, Citizens for Milford wants to ensure all protections built into this plant to safeguard air quality, water supply, etc. will be implemented correctly, monitored, and enforced.
